Chanson
is based upon the
ubiquitous French Folk Song that graces most, if not all, beginning
string methods. It is designed to
provide a smooth transition to orchestral playing and a pleasant listening
experience for audiences. In the event
of lack of basses or second violins, it is possible to cut from bar 56 to 77
(letter E). An extra easy alternate part for basses is also included.
Composer William Rich has taught school orchestras in Western New York, Rockland
and Westchester Counties. He holds
degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the City University of New
York. He is the author of method books
for the double bass- The Blue Bass Book
series.
His original compositions and arrangements for school orchestras
have been widely performed. As an
active member of the New York State School Music Association, he served as
adjudicator, guest conductor and orchestra/string review editor of the School Music News.
