written expressly for high school and amateur choruses. Commissioned by the Clarence High School Chorale, Persis Vehar has provided us with accessible
and meaningful contemporary choral music. Of
the three movements the Kyrie
and the Benedictus are scored for 4-part SATB chorus. The Sanctus (also available
separately) is for SSA voices with solo soprano. The Missa Brevis is accompanied by string orchestra (C set
$55) or piano.

Based upon music from a Russian Molokan service, it is in D minor with English text. The Russian Molokans emigrated from Armenia
to California early in the 20th century to escape religious
persecution. The music is distinctive
and deep.

This is one of the most thrilling choruses in the literature. Verdi composed this for vocal forces SATB TTBB (which may not always be available in school and community situations).
