This work is an arrangement for string orchestra of
the third movement of the “Dumky” Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello, Opus 90.
The music is based upon Ukrainian folk dances which are characterized by the
alternation of slow and lively tempos and are often suffused with melancholy.
