Montuno
Montuno was written by Diane Cardarelli to expose
young musicians to the rich rhythmic texture of Latin American music, by
incorporating the elements of a repetitive montuno or rondo refrain. Recurring
montuno patterns typically contain syncopated rhythms over which are layered
melodic lines and chord progressions characteristic to Latin music. It is the
bringing back of the montuno throughout the piece that creates the enjoyable
Caribbean dance feel. C sets ($45)

Easy Street
Easy Street was composed for elementary string orchestra by William Rich and provides an accessible, good-sounding piece to use on that all-important first concert. Century Puerto Rican composer Angel Mislán is one of his finest compositions in
the Danza musical style. Besides the
appealing rhythms and melodies abounding in this piece, the use of
counterpoint, especially in the pizzicato passages, is outstanding. It is arranged here for string orchestra by
